for solo cello, 1982, duration: 5 minutes.1,7
"Rhapsody for solo cello was completed in January of 1982 and is dedicated to Barbara Haffner. The work is a free lyrical exploration of a melody generated by the opening few notes. The composing of this work came close on the heels of my piano collection, Music of Twelve Centers. At that time, my compositional technique often involved the presentation of musical ideas that are fragmented as a part of the development of the piece. The fragments continue to appear as their tonal implications and expressive possibilities are re-examined by juxtaposing them with contrasting ideas. My music could be described as having an open and easy approach to tonality - neither insisting on it nor rejecting it. Musical intuition is supplemented by the exploration of formal systems, but always in a songful manner."
